Douglas J. Reichl
Founder & President

Doug Reichl has more than 30 years’ experience in real estate development and brokerage. Since founding Tartan in 2002, he has led the development mixed-use and retail projects throughout the Midwest, with a special focus on campus environments, including the University of Illinois, Indiana University Bloomington, Illinois State University, and Southern Illinois University.

Recently completed projects include One Uptown on the Circle, a $28 million public/private partnership with the Town of Normal, Illinois that anchors the community’s nationally lauded downtown and will feature a 200,000 sf Hyatt Place hotel. Doug also oversaw the multi-phased expansion of The Flats, a 450-bed mixed-use students housing development serving students from Illinois State University, as well as Evolve, a 350-bed student housing development at Southern Illinois University. Additional experience includes multiple retail developments in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs, as well as university communities in Indiana and Illinois.

Doug has a deep background in tenant representation. He oversaw the leasing of the 310,000 sf Southgate Market in downtown Chicago, which is anchored by Whole Foods. Additionally, he was part of the leasing and development team for Chatham Marketplace, a 50-acre brownfield development on Chicago’s south side anchored by Wal-Mart and Lowe’s Home Improvement. He also assisted Potbelly Sandwich Shop with its Central Illinois expansion.

He is a Founding Partner of Meatheads Burgers & Fries, a new fast causal restaurant chain with 17 outlets in Illinois and Indiana. Prior to founding Tartan Realty Group, Inc., Doug spent 14 years with HSA Commercial, Inc., where he served as Principal, Executive Vice President, and Managing Director of Retail Services.

Tom Jednorowicz
Principal
Tom has been developing and executing strategic, large-scale retail expansions for nearly 20 years. With a focus on start-up companies, he oversees all aspects of new store development, including financing, market selection and planning, site selection, architecture and design, construction, and facilities management. 

Tom is a founder and president of Meatheads, a fast-casual “better burger” restaurant with 17 stores in Illinois and Indiana. Meatheads has made Inc.’s 500|5000 list of fastest growing companies every year since 2012 and was named one of 50 breakout brands to watch in 2013 by Nation’s Restaurant News. 

As the former Chief Development Officer with Potbelly Sandwich Works, Tom led the expansion of the concept from ten units in one market to more than 100 units in eight markets in three years’ time. During his tenure, he was instrumental in the development of the company’s long-range plans and in creating all internal processes and structure necessary to accomplish the company’s growth objectives. 

 In addition to working with Potbelly, Tom has also worked with some of the top US food and retail concepts including Panera Bread, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Chart House, Xando Coffee and Bar, Cosi Sandwich Bar, Kinko’s Copies, and Boston Market. Among his accomplishments, Tom led the integration of the Xando and Cosi concepts into one merged brand, directed Einstein Bros. Bagels in a three-year, 400-store expansion, and assisted several start-up concepts in creating scalable platforms for accelerated growth plans. He has also been an advisor to several boards and has played key roles in the raising of capital in both public and private sectors. 

 Tom holds Bachelor of Arts and Master’s of Business Administration degrees from The University of Connecticut.

Wilhem Kreuzer
CCIM, LEED AP
 Principal

Wilhelm O. Kreuzer, principal of Tartan Realty Group, has been actively involved in real estate for nearly 20 years. He has extensive knowledge and experience in every aspect of commercial real estate, including underwriting of real estate assets, property management, asset management, site location and development of commercial property, as well as negotiation of leases, purchase agreements, operating agreements, joint venture agreements, loan documents, and public finance documents.

Will has successfully spearheaded developments for his and other investors' real estate portfolios and has played an integral role in acquiring or developing more than 650,000 square feet of commercial real estate valued in excess of $250 million. In addition, He has or is currently serving as a consultant with Starbucks Coffee, Einstein Bros Bagels, Mattress Firm, and Blockbuster Video (DISH Network) on their existing store locations. As a top dealmaker with his team, Will has assisted with negotiating and extending over 300 store leases throughout United States and Canada.

Prior to joining Tartan, Will worked at HSA Commercial as the Senior Vice President of Finance, where he assisted in financing over 18 million square feet of real estate valued at over $1 billion. He is a licensed real estate broker in Illinois and Indiana, holds the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation, is a Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design accredited professional (LEED® AP), is a Lambda Alpha International Member (The Honorary Society for the Advancement of Land Economics), and serves on the advisory board for the Benecki Center for Real Estate Studies at Indiana University. Will received his Bachelor of Science degree in Real Estate and Finance from Indiana University.

Michael Schertler
Vice President of Leasing

Michael Schertler joined Tartan in 2003 and manages the firm’s brokerage services. He represents Potbelly Sandwich Works in the brand’s expansion Chicago and Central Illinois and Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) in its Midwest expansion. Along with tenant representation, Mike represents landlords and developers throughout the Chicago metro area. 

Notable projects include the redevelopment of a former industrial site at Touhy and Linder in Skokie, Illinois into a new retail center and the Whole Foods-anchored Southgate Market, located in Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood. Previous experience includes Chatham Market, a 50-acre development anchored by the first Super Walmart in the City of Chicago; a 40-acre Lowe’s anchored development in Orland Park, Illinois, that brought one of the first three Chick-Fil-A restaurants to the Chicago metro area; and Lake Business Center in Munster, Indiana.

Prior to joining Tartan, Mike spent five years in the oil and gas industry in an accounting capacity. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign with a bachelor of science in kinesiology. He is a licensed Real Estate Broker in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin and a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).

Brendan Watt
Broker/Leasing Associate

Brendan joined Tartan in 2013 and works with the brokerage team to bring emerging brands to new markets. He represents Blaze Pizza in its Central Illinois expansion, as well as Meatheads. Brendan is also helping new fitness brand PowerLab with its Chicago market launch. Additional clients include Dunkin’ Donuts and CorePower Yoga.

Brendan works with clients to maximize their real estate holdings. He is currently assisting with the leasing for the redevelopment of Touhy and Linder in Skokie, Illinois, Tartan’s repositioning of multiple parcels at Veterans and College in Bloomington, as well as other retail and mixed-use projects in Carbondale and Champaign. In addition, he is supporting the brokerage team with Tartan’s role as the master broker for CA Student Living’s mixed-use projects across the country.

Brendan is a certified real estate broker in the State of Illinois and is an active member of the Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation. He holds a degree in Public Financial Management from Indiana University Bloomington, where he led his team in the prestigious International Real Estate Case Competition at Cornell University.

Chris George
Development Coordinator

Chris joined the Tartan in 2014, where he helps coordinate the the contractor and design teams for all active developments, as well as manage procurement, delivery, and installation of all FF&E for the new Hyatt Place hotel in Normal, Illinois and the 350-bed student housing development, Evolve, at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. Chris also oversees tenant build-out for some of Tartan’s retail developments.

Prior to joining Tartan, Chris was a national sales account executive with Grub Hub, where he launched and managed the tech start-up’s East Coast markets, including Boston, Miami, and Raleigh, North Carolina during a period of rapid expansion. He also managed all sales and marketing for the Chicago Wolves’ youth hockey programs, including establishing partnerships with other hockey arenas throughout central Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

Chris holds a bachelor of science in political science from Miami University of Ohio where he played club hockey.
